Nikon as a company was founded in 1917 under the name Nippon Kogaku K.K. Over the next four to five years the company teamed up with various German interests to manufacture optical devices for the war effort. The Germans also helped Nippon Kogaku K.K. design and produce various models of telescope around this same time period.
The company officially adopted the name Nikon in 1946 and went on to produce some of the highest quality binoculars available on the market today. Nikon has also helped lead the transition into digital photography with their continued efforts and innovations in the professional and consumer photography fields.
